Well, we were back at it this weekend. Friday we drove to Davenport, Saturday we drove to Cedar Rapids and then back to Iowa City, and then on Sunday we headed back to Chicago.
Saturday was a "Fruit-a-palooza" party for Mallory's 7th birthday. 16 seven-year-old girls showed up for the party and I was assigned as the Bounce House bouncer - I was to only let three girls in at a time and have them rotate and take turns. Let me just say that this was a learning experience for me. I learned that I am no match for 16 screaming young girls. They ran all over me and showed no mercy. Sara offered no help, but instead took pleasure (and pictures) in watching me duck and take cover. It was a lot of fun, despite the tragic Bounce House Horror (as it will be called from now on), and I think Mallory had a great time.
After the party, Sara and I drove back to Iowa City and the home of Chris, Emily, and Ava Barwacz (another one of our "Blogs of Note" friends). We enjoyed a great night of food, drink, conversation, laughter, more drink, and brownies. The meatloaf was amazing.
Sunday we got up early and headed back to Chicago as we had tickets to the Penguins vs. Blackhawks hockey game. It was exciting with the Blackhawks winning in a shoot out. Sara and I then stayed after the game and were able to meet up with Ban Bylsma, the head coach of the Penguins. Dan is a distant relative (2nd cousin). It was also fun to catch up with his mom, Nancy. We spent some time talking and catching up and then Dan and the Penguins had to leave.
Another busy weekend for us but a lot of fun. Now it's time to enjoy just being home for a while.
